Lac-Mégantic's regional sports centre, open since 2011
Residents of Lac-Mégantic and the surrounding region began dreaming of a sports centre of their own in 1999. Through persistence, faith in the project and many formal steps, the Centre sportif Mégantic was inaugurated on September 16, 2011. It is a municipal facility run by the City of Lac-Mégantic and supported by 14 partner municipalities around it, among them Audet, Frontenac, Marston, Nantes and Piopolis.
The arena's ice sheet measures 85 by 200 feet. The rink holds 750 seated spectators and 450 standing, 1,200 in all, and has two private boxes and six dressing rooms, plus one for coaches and another for referees. Besides public skating to music, the ice hosts drop-in boot hockey, and the Centre now offers weekday periods for school groups.
Under the same roof are a 25-metre pool split into four lanes for lap swimming, a wading pool with water games, a springboard, and a gymnasium for drop-in badminton, pickleball and volleyball.
