Hong Kong's first rink in a retail centre
Swire Properties opened the first ice rink inside a Hong Kong retail centre at Cityplaza, in Taikoo Shing, in 1982. It was small but so popular that it moved from Cityplaza Phase 1 to a much larger surface in Phase 2, where Wikipedia's list gives the ice as 20 metres by 40 metres. The idea came from John Wagner, the centre's manager.
The rink had a major renovation in 2021, and the page says the newly revamped Ice Palace uses an environmentally friendly refrigerant that creates fast ice suitable for all types of skating, with a self-service system for renting skates, a first for Hong Kong.
Its skate school describes itself as a pioneer of formal figure skating lessons in Hong Kong.
