Gunma's prefectural ice arena in Maebashi, open from October to March
The ALSOK Gunma Ice Arena is one of the venues of the Gunma Sports Center in Maebashi, which opened in 1981 as the Gunma General Gymnasium Centre and took its present name after the Gunma Arena and the Fureai ground were finished in November 1996. The centre was used for the Akagi national sports festival and its grounds cover about 219,000 square metres. Since 2015 a company, Gunma Sogo Guard System, has held the naming rights, which is why the ice arena carries the ALSOK name.
The ice arena is a two-storey reinforced-concrete building of 5,387 square metres with 2,132 spectator places (1,678 fixed seats and 454 standing places) and room for up to 6,032 people. The ice is used from October to March for public skating, figure skating, ice hockey and short track.
Public skating is closed on Mondays, or on the next day when the Monday is a holiday, and the arena names free days: opening day on 1 October, Gunma Citizens' Day on 28 October and, for children, the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
