Confederation Arena until 1991

Aréna Doug-Harvey opened in 1966 as Confederation Arena, the first indoor rink for minor hockey in NDG. Until then there were no indoor arenas in the area, so the hockey season pretty much ended when the snow melted, and for the next six to seven years the local season was still split between indoor and outdoor ice.

The building was renamed the Doug Harvey Arena in 1991. Efforts to rename it had been made before Harvey's death, but Montreal rarely renamed arenas after people who were still living. The arena sits in parc de la Confédération and was designed for a variety of ice sports.

NDG Minor Hockey still counts Doug Harvey Arena among its home rinks. The association's alumni include Sergio Momesso, Brian Johnson, Bill Campbell, Gordon Donnelly and Steven Fletcher, who went on to play in the NHL, and many others who played in the QMJHL. Between club bookings the city schedules public skating, drop-in hockey and bâton-rondelle sessions, the last dedicated to individual skills such as skating, shooting, passing and puck handling.
