A refrigerated rink in the Quartier des spectacles since 2022

The Esplanade Tranquille rink opened in February 2022 and describes itself as the largest refrigerated rink in the city. It covers 1,500 square metres of a 1,890-square-metre plaza and holds up to 400 skaters at a time, on ice resurfaced every hour and a half by a Zamboni in the Quartier des spectacles colours.

The plaza was the last phase of the district's public-space plan for its west end, with architecture by Les architectes FABG. In the evening an interactive video projection lights up the ice. Upstairs in the pavilion, the Grand salon looks down on the plaza and holds an exhibition on Henri Tranquille and his bookshop, the Librairie Tranquille.

Sessions here come with music, from classical to disco, and the Patins Platines series turns the rink into a dance floor. Patinage Montréal, the regional figure-skating association, runs several learn-to-skate sessions a week.
