The Patinoire de Romont, a 1996 artificial rink planning a second ice surface
The Patinoire de Romont, on the Route de Massonnens on the edge of Romont, is an artificial-ice rink built in 1996, measuring 30 by 60 metres and built to the rules of the international ice hockey federation. At public sessions the ice is shared: one third is set aside for public hockey and two thirds for free skating without sticks.
The rink says it stages about 220 hockey games a season in the Coupe de la Glâne, which it hosts every year. The Les Griffons hockey school, which skates here, counts 450 licensed young players and says demand is growing across the region, and a figure-skating club is based at the rink too.
A second ice surface is planned: a rink of 60 by 26 metres built across the existing structure, with a café and four new changing rooms, estimated at CHF 8 million and hoped to open for the 2027-28 season.
