The MARC turned 50 in 2024

The Meadville Area Recreation Complex, known locally as the MARC, marked its 50th anniversary in 2024, a year in which it hosted roughly 68,000 visits. It is run by the Meadville Area Recreation Authority, a twelve-member board with representatives from the City of Meadville, West Mead Township and Vernon Township. The ice arena is one part of a 47-acre complex that also holds a pool and sand volleyball courts.

The rink is the George S. DeArment Ice Arena, a single regulation 200-by-85-foot sheet with a heated lobby off the ice. The Crawford County Youth Hockey Association operates out of the arena, and the Meadville Bulldogs hold their practices here. 814 Hockey runs an instructional school in the building, and curling shares the ice with hockey and figure skating. The Meadville Figure Skating Club, formed in the late 1970s, went on hiatus for a stretch and has since re-formed, restarting with six young skaters.

The ice is seasonal, staying in through March. In 2024 the authority was pursuing a conditions assessment to guide capital repairs, including pumps and roofing, two years after the complex's pool roof collapsed in early 2022.
