A nonprofit two-rink arena in downtown Jamestown, home ice for the Jamestown Lakers youth hockey teams.
Northwest Arena is a nonprofit, founded in 2002 as an economic development project for downtown Jamestown, and it now draws an estimated 250,000 visitors a year. The building holds two full-size rinks, and the café and lounge, reached from the walking track inside the Shults Rink, look out over both.
Hockey keeps the ice busy. The arena is home to the Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association's Jamestown Lakers, the Jamestown Raiders JV and varsity teams, and adult teams in the Jamestown Area Hockey League, and it has more than 20 years of experience hosting tournaments. The Jamestown Skating Club runs its Learn to Skate program here for all ages and abilities.
Off the ice, the arena hosts comedy performances during the Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy each August and the Grapes & Hops beer and wine tasting festival each spring. Public skating shares the calendar with ice bumper cars, backyard curling and walks on the indoor track.
