A large undercover real-ice rink in Northernhay Gardens, a short walk from Exeter Central station
Currently out of season Exeter's Winter Wonderland returns from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, closed Christmas Day, with an undercover real-ice rink in Northernhay Gardens. Official schedule update
Exeter's Winter Wonderland puts an undercover real-ice rink at the heart of the event in Northernhay Gardens, so skating goes ahead whatever the weather. The rink is a two-minute walk from Exeter Central station, and in 2026 the event adds a brand-new Light Trail. The whole rink can also be hired exclusively for staff parties.
Northernhay Gardens has a long history as a city park. The early park was destroyed in the Civil War, in 1642, when large defensive ditches were dug outside the walls for the city's defence, and soon after the Restoration the city set about restoring it, planting hundreds of young elms and laying out gravel paths. The gardens underwent a major re-landscaping in 1860, and in the 17th and 18th centuries they were affectionately known as "Norney". They also contain a bandstand.
