Opened in 1971 as Flagstaff Ice Arena, renamed in 1985 for Jay Lively; home rink of the NAU IceJacks
Jay Lively Activity Center opened in 1971 as the Flagstaff Ice Arena. The city renamed it in 1985 in honor of Jay Lively, a local ice hockey player who died in a car crash. Northern Arizona University hockey played here from the start, left in 1977 to play NCAA Division I hockey in the new Walkup Skydome, and returned in 1985 after the Skydome's ice system fell into disrepair and NAU dropped support for the program.
The building is a public municipal ice arena and skating center with room for around 300 people. It is the home rink of the NAU IceJacks, the university's ACHA club team, which has been based here since 1991. Public skate sessions, adult-only skate, open hockey and sticks and pucks share the ice with the college program, and the rink sits about three miles from the NAU campus.
In 2010 the roof collapsed under snow that built up during a four-day blizzard. On January 28, 2023 the IceJacks practically sold out their game against ASU here and won 3-1 in a physical game, with fans packed to the brim and every goal followed by a roar that rumbled the building.
