Tri-County Complex, Fredericton Junction, from a physician's 1990 vision to a multi-million-dollar arena
The Tri-County Complex in Fredericton Junction began in 1990, when a rural community physician had a vision that triggered seven communities to start working toward a dream. It took a combined population of 3,700 fifteen years to raise the first stretch of funding, and local fundraising went on to add far more over the following three years.
Before the arena existed, the area's unique outdoor hockey program started with a low registration fee and an equipment loan-out service that turned no child away. It grew to 13 teams and 150 kids in three years, then moved into the Tri-County Complex on the same property, which became home to the Tri-County Rivercats.
Today the arena is home ice for the Tri County Minor Hockey Association and the Tri-County Junior C Rivercats. Under the same roof the complex has a six-lane bowling centre for open and league play, and meeting rooms for weddings and family events.
