A Grand Junction rink founded by a grassroots group in 1996, opened in 2006 and reopened in October 2021.
River City Sportplex was founded in 1996 by a group from the Grassroots Organization in Grand Junction, and the rink opened in 2006 on a 4-acre property along the Riverside Trail. Pandemic restrictions forced it to close in March 2020, and it officially reopened to the public on October 8, 2021.
It is home to the River Hawk youth hockey program, the River Hawk Curling Club, River City Skating Club, the Colorado Mesa University men's hockey team and the Caprock Academy high school team. The Grand Junction River Hawks won the 2025-26 Mountain Division title and advanced to the Dineen Cup national championship in their first year, and Colorado Mesa has played its ninth annual Pink the Rink game here. One of the rink's most popular attractions is bumper cars on the ice.
