Two 85 x 200-foot ice surfaces on Grande Prairie's Community Knowledge Campus, open since 2003.
The Design Works Centre has run since 2003 as the twin-arena building on Grande Prairie's Community Knowledge Campus, a site that joins schools and City recreation to create a centre for life-long learning. Its two ice surfaces, the South Arena and the Weyerhaeuser North Arena, each measure 85 by 200 feet.
The building has 12 change rooms, seating for 350 around the South Arena and a Hockey Legends Lounge on the third floor. For more than 20 years the South Arena has been a cornerstone of ice sports in Grande Prairie and the wider Peace Region, and the building averages about 8,770 users a month.
Northwestern Polytechnic's Wolves women's hockey team, which competes in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, calls the Weyerhaeuser Arena home. The Grande Prairie Skating Club teaches Pre-CanSkate and CanSkate here from age three, the Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club is another user group, and in winter the campus adds a speed skating oval.
