A 1970 campus arena that hosted three NCAA Division III men's hockey championships
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Wessman Arena opened in 1970 on the south end of the UW-Superior campus. It is named for Siinto S. Wessman, a former regent and longtime university booster, and the name was given at a ceremony before the first game.
It is home to the Yellowjacket men's and women's hockey teams and the Superior High School boys' team. The arena hosted the NCAA Division III men's championships in 1994, 2000 and 2007 and the 2013 NCAA Division III women's championship. In the summer of 2025 it got new boards and glass, following new ice-making equipment, flooring and a sound system.
Out of hockey season it works as an event center for concerts, graduation ceremonies, professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. The university's Superior Plan, announced in 2023, calls for two new indoor sheets near the arena for the university, the high school and the Superior Amateur Hockey Association.
