Soft-opened February 6, 2003 and officially opened February 22, 2003; Juneau's city ice rink in Douglas
Loading public skate, freestyle, and stick & puck times for Treadwell Ice Arena…
Treadwell Arena in Douglas had its soft opening on February 6, 2003 and its official grand opening on February 22, 2003. Sandy Williams, a member of the Douglas Fourth of July Committee at the time, said, "I think this is going to be a tremendous asset to our community." At the one-year anniversary in 2004, an instructor called it "a great fit in this community, for fitness and recreation in this climate."
For its first 15 years the rink resurfaced with an Olympia 2000, bought secondhand from a Calgary ice rink around the time of opening and named Alice after the late Douglas community fixture Alice Poor. In summer 2018 a Zamboni 546 replaced it, and the arena marked its 16th year in February 2019 with a Sweet 16 party and a public vote to name the new machine.
