Rebuilt in 1977 after the old arena was condemned

In the spring of 1976 several local arenas were inspected and deemed unsafe, and the old Arthur arena was condemned and closed. Service clubs, businesses and the community, under the Arthur Council and with recreation representatives from the four neighbouring townships of Peel, Arthur, West Luther and West Garafraxa, set out to build a new facility, and the new arena was built in 1977.

The first hockey game was played in October 1977 while work continued on the lower hall. Several hockey games inaugurated the rebuilt arena, among them an International Hockey game against Denmark on December 29, 1977. Two days later the Lions Club and the Optimist Club held a New Year's Eve party in the building, with a band and a sold-out crowd.

The Arthur and Area Community Centre will soon be 50 years old. Wellington North council voted in 2021 to replace the arena's ice-making pipeline, work expected to rehabilitate the arena floor for over 40 years.
