Built in 2005 with three sheets of ice
The Midland Civic Arena was built in 2005 with three ice rinks: two NHL-size sheets and one Olympic-size sheet, with seating for 1,000. In 2014 one of the NHL rinks was converted to a turf field, which leaves two sheets of ice in the building today.
The arena is home to the Midland High, Dow High and Northwood hockey teams. The Midland Amateur Hockey League runs hockey and learn-to-skate here for ages 3 to 18, and in 2021 the arena's own adult league had 44 teams across six divisions, first-time players included. The Midland Figure Skating Club and the Midland Speed Skating Club both teach youth and adult skaters on the same ice.
The turf was not part of the original building. Besides the arena's own flag football league, it is used by the Midland Soccer Club, the Midland Lacrosse Club and several baseball and softball organizations.
