Home rink of the Greater Saginaw Amateur Hockey Association since the mid-1980s
The Greater Saginaw Amateur Hockey Association was formed in 1973 and began its first season at the Saginaw Civic Center. The next season it moved to the new Verbeeke Memorial Ice Arena, which was later renamed the Bayside Ice Arena.
In the mid-1980s the association took ownership of the building and renamed it the Saginaw-Bay Ice Arena, the name it still uses. It is owned and operated by the association, and more than 10,000 children have called the rink home in over fifty years of youth hockey.
Two of the association's first Hall of Fame inductees are tied to the building: Dave Westner managed the arena and directed the youth program for over 30 years, and Fred Bowden was its assistant manager for over 30 years. The Saginaw B Friendship Tournament, now in its 44th year, is played under the arena's one roof.
