A hockey-only college arena dedicated in 1974 and built into a hillside on the MSU campus
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Munn Ice Arena was dedicated on November 1, 1974, and is named in honor of Clarence "Biggie" Munn, the Spartan football coach and athletic director. Its inaugural season drew crowds totaling 118,875 attendees. The building was designed by Daverman Associates of Grand Rapids.
The structure is built into the natural slope of the terrain, which gives the impression of being underground, since no external walls are visible. The ice surface, sized at 200 feet by 85 feet for North American rules, is maintained by an indirect refrigerant system, and the ice-making equipment was completely replaced in the spring and summer of 2014.
A $26.2 million expansion project was completed in the fall of 2022. On October 7, 2023, the ice surface was dedicated in honor of longtime coach and athletic director Ron Mason.
