Home rink of the St. Thomas Stars

The Joe Thornton Community Centre opened to a sold-out crowd on October 20, 2005, as the newest ice facility in St. Thomas. It carries the name of Joe Thornton, who grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown of St. Thomas and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2025.

The building has two NHL-size rinks. The St. Thomas Minor Hockey rink has 2,200 fixed seats with standing room for 300 more, and the Presstran-Formet rink has bleachers for about 100. It is the home arena of the St. Thomas Stars, a junior team in the Western division of the Greater Ontario Hockey League, and the walking track closes during Stars games on Friday evenings. That rubberized fitness track sits on the second level of the minor hockey rink.

The Kraft Hockeyville pre-season game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs came to the centre on September 27, 2023.
