A timber rink built by a memorial foundation

Manchester Ice & Event Center in downtown McCall was built with huge timbers that nod to the town's mill and logging history. It grew out of the Richard Sabala Foundation, formed by the Sabala family in honour of their son: the land was bought in 1992, the rink was the Foundation's second project after the Rich Sabala Athletic Complex at Payette Lakes High School, and it officially opened for business in 2003.

The rink runs as a non-profit with support from the Sabala Foundation. Its figure skating program is a show rink with two annual shows, one at Christmas and one at Winter Carnival, and it added a summer program of ice bumper cars.

The rink sees about 80,000 visits a year, and about 100 families call it home. Sixty-six boards surround the ice, and the rink was one of the few between Coeur d'Alene and Salt Lake City able to stay open in the summer of 2020.
