A single-sheet downtown rink with 350+ seats, reopened on October 17, 2022 with a new slab and boards
The Moose Recreation Centre is a single-sheet ice rink in the heart of Medicine Hat, with seating for over 350 spectators. Its concrete ice slab needed to be replaced, and in December 2021 Council voted to support the funding required to reopen the facility to the public.
The city drafted a tender for the work, expecting construction to take place through the summer months. The City of Medicine Hat reopened the rink on Monday, October 17, 2022. As Parks and Recreation director James Will put it, the rink required some pretty substantial renovations to reopen safely: the concrete slab was replaced and the new rink boards were in, and the city said it could not wait to have local skaters take to the ice once more.
