A converted warehouse in Olive Branch
Mid-South Ice House opened in 2011 inside a converted industrial warehouse in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Al Austin, who owns the building with a business partner, spent four years turning it into a year-round sheet of ice. The rink was built to NHL-certified dimensions, and when Ole Miss and Memphis played the first college game there in September 2011, about 550 spectators turned out to watch.
It is the only public-use indoor ice rink in the Memphis metro area, and local universities and club teams use it for practice and competition. The Memphis Jr. Riverkings, a travel program in the Southern Youth Travel Hockey League, are based here and play tournaments around the Southeast. The Figure Skating Club of Memphis and the Mid-South Curling Club also run their programs on this sheet.
The building keeps hockey, figure skating and curling going year-round for all ages and skill levels. In February 2026 the Junior RiverKings still called the Ice House home, and Austin still owns the warehouse it lives in.
