Opened in 1990 as the Bladerunner Arena

Planet Ice Milton Keynes, formerly the Bladerunner Arena, opened in 1990 as part of the new Leisure Plaza complex near Milton Keynes Central station. It had 2,200 seats, and would regularly sell out on Kings game nights and have to turn customers away because its public skating sessions were so popular. Olympic champions Torvill and Dean used it as a training base.

The arena's owners closed it in 1992, but it reopened after a public outcry, only to close for good in the summer of 1996. After two years of closure it reopened in April 1998 under new ownership as Planet Ice, and its learn to skate courses were over-subscribed for several years.

Milton Keynes Thunder began using the arena in 2001, and Milton Keynes Lightning were formed there in 2002. The old rink closed on 14 July 2013 for redevelopment, and the new rink opened in late 2014.
