Edina's city arena since 1965, home of Edina Hornets hockey and the Braemar-City of the Lakes skating club.
Braemar Arena was built in the 1960s, starting with the West rink in 1965, and grew through a patchwork of upgrades; all of its rinks are 200 by 85 feet. In 2012 the Hornets' Nest locker rooms were added along with retail space for General Sports, which offers skate sharpening and equipment.
With some infrastructure failing or past its life cycle, the city launched a complex upgrade and expansion project. About ten years earlier the East Rink's subfloor heating had failed and the ground beneath the ice froze solid. The first milestone came when skaters took to the renovated South Rink.
The historic stadium-style West Arena displays Edina's athletic success and is home to the Edina Hornets high school teams, state hockey tournaments and elite figure skating competitions and shows. The East Arena is home to the Braemar-City of the Lakes Figure Skating Club, Team Braemar precision skating and the Braemar Skate School, and the newest, the South Arena, celebrates the achievements of Edina Hockey Association players.
