The City of Eagan's two-sheet arena, where open skates come with light-up ice bumper cars
Eagan Civic Arena gives Eagan two indoor, regulation-size sheets of ice that stay open for skating all year. It is the only rink in the Twin Cities metro where skaters can slide, spin and bump: inflatable bumper cars that light up, spin 360 degrees and zoom across a sectioned-off part of the ice during Bump and Skate sessions, with a dedicated operator keeping them apart from the skaters.
Hockey fills much of the week. Youth players in Eagan practice, train and play here through two independent associations, the Eagan Hockey Association and the Eastview Hockey Association, and the arena runs adult leagues alongside its drop-in open hockey. The non-profit Eagan Ice Crystal Figure Skating Club uses it as its home rink.
The city's Eagan Skate School, now part of the Learn to Skate USA program, teaches figure and hockey skating to everyone from three-year-olds up. Each spring its students skate in costume under the spotlights for friends, family and the community at an annual ice show, most recently themed on Mary Poppins.
