Missoula's nonprofit rink, born in a cow barn

Glacier Ice Rink is Missoula's community nonprofit ice rink, on the Missoula County Fairgrounds. Since 1997 it has offered affordable hockey, skating and other ice recreation, growing from modest beginnings in a converted cow barn into the two-sheet facility it is today.

It now has two NHL-size sheets: an indoor rink open from late August or early September through May, and a covered outdoor rink open October through March. There are eight locker rooms, four of them heated, and a skate shop with sharpening and rental skates, and the nonprofit keeps youth hockey affordable with free equipment for every Learn to Play participant.

The rink welcomes nearly 150,000 visits a year for hockey, public skating, figure skating, curling, school programs and tournaments, and its calendar mixes regular sessions with events such as free Girls Try Hockey days and a Dolly Parton-themed public skate in September 2026.
