Back on the ice since October 2025
Wheaton Ice Arena is one of Montgomery Parks' two rinks, offering daily public skating and ice skating and hockey classes and camps for all ages and skill levels, with special events and skating exhibitions through the year. Its sister rink is Cabin John Ice Rink, closer to Rockville and Bethesda.
Montgomery Parks closed the arena from mid-April to early October 2025 to install a new refrigeration system, an update that enterprise division chief Christy Turnbull said would let it continue operating for many years to come. While it was closed, Cabin John Ice Rink added skating lessons and other programs to make up for it.
The arena reopened on Saturday, October 4, 2025, ready to glide back into action after five months. Montgomery Parks marked the season with a Passport to Sports Day, when one wristband opened the ice arena, Wheaton Indoor Tennis and the Wheaton Sports Pavilion in a single day. The pro shop sells skates, accessories and hockey gear and offers skate services.
