Metro Parks' 1990 sports complex, where the Predators added a second sheet and practice through 2049.
The idea for Centennial Sportsplex emerged in October 1987, after Metro Parks acquired the 10-acre site in a land exchange with Hospital Corporation of America. The complex opened in February 1990 as a municipal recreation center.
Its ice changed in 1998 and 1999, when the Nashville Predators negotiated to put their practice facility here, added a second sheet to the arena and moved their practices in. Today the $20 million, 145,000-square-foot complex houses two 200-by-85-foot rinks alongside competition and recreational pools, fitness space and tennis.
Centennial has long been a center of Nashville figure skating and hockey, and it has hosted the U.S. Figure Skating Championships among its national events. An agreement with Metro keeps it the Predators' practice home through 2049, with renovations of their training center planned under that deal.
