Maki Rink in Lakeview Park is built, operated and maintained entirely by Crystal Beach-Lakeview volunteers
For the latest skating dates, check the rink’s official information.
Lakeview Park's rink, known locally as Maki Rink, sits beside Maki House, which opened in 1971 as a modest field house for the Crystal Beach-Lakeview community. In its final year under the City of Nepean the building was expanded to double its size, and on December 23, 2000, it shifted to full community use.
The rink itself is 100% built, operated and maintained by neighbours who volunteer their time. By March 2024 one of them, Al Arsenault, had operated the rink for 36 years. A flooding night as the volunteers describe it means 10 to 12 people on the ice with two blowers and a bunch of shovels going.
The City of Ottawa lists the site as a community-maintained rink with puddle, with seasonal boards and permanent lights and a trailer as the on-site facility. In January 2026 the community association held a Winter Carnival at the rink with all-day skating, games and treats, with proceeds going to the 116th Nepean Scouting Group and Days for Girls International.
