Opened in 1983 on the east shore of Georgian Bay, home of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack
The Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre opened in 1983 on the east shore of Georgian Bay, which gives it its name, and replaced Owen Sound's old downtown arena. Its main rink, the J.D. McArthur Arena, is a 4,300-seat multi-purpose building.
The arena is dedicated to the memory of Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Harry Lumley, who was born and raised in Owen Sound and began his hockey career there. J.D. McArthur, a longtime local sportsman and businessman, served as the city's arena commissioner for 26 years and was instrumental in the construction of the Bayshore.
The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League call the building home, along with the Owen Sound Woodsmen of the OLA Senior B Lacrosse League and the Owen Sound Rams of the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League. The community centre was substantially renovated from 2000 to 2002, adding private boxes, more seating and a new front entrance, and the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame, established in 1981, is housed inside.
