Port Alberni's multiplex, completed in 2001 and home to the Bulldogs since 2002
The Alberni Valley Multiplex was completed in 2001, after a project led by Arena Society president Wendy Ewing and her board. Its Weyerhaeuser Arena has twin ice sheets for hockey, figure skating and recreational skating, and seats nearly 1,900 for games.
The finished building put a junior A team within reach. The BCHL asked for 1,000 season ticket holders and a set level of corporate sponsorship before approving a move, and Ewing's volunteers eventually exceeded both targets. The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have been the arena's main tenant since 2002 and marked their tenth season there in 2011-12. A lease extension finalized in 2019 kept the multiplex their home through the 2024 season, and the team has been under Olithan Sports & Entertainment since 2024.
The ice was out for weeks in November 2019, when a low-level ammonia leak triggered an alarm on November 3 and shut the Bulldogs, figure skating and minor hockey clubs out of the building.
