Port Hawkesbury's 2004 arena, which lets natural light over the ice and made a 2007 top-ten list
Currently out of season The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre says its public skating schedule runs approximately October to March and that the 2026-27 season begins after Thanksgiving; it posts weekly parent and tot, senior and adult, and after-school skates with fees, and no skating on holidays, school breaks or tournament days. The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre opened on November 25, 2004. It was designed by architect Bob Ojolick of Ojolick Associates, and it is one of the few ice hockey rinks in the world that allows natural light in from outside. In 2007 Business Week Online named it one of the top ten most impressive sports arenas in the world.
The Strait Pirates of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League have played here since 2004. They are the longest continuously running Junior B franchise in Canada, and the SAREC Saints also list the centre as home. The arena holds 1,000 for hockey.
Grand Slam of Curling events came to the building in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2017. It also hosted a Florida Panthers training camp in 2009, a Montreal Canadiens alumni game in 2010 and the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
