A canopied rink in Guildhall Square, in front of Portsmouth's Guildhall
Public skating at Portsmouth On Ice: the next 7 days
Currently out of season Portsmouth On Ice is open in Guildhall Square from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, closed Christmas Day, with hour-long sessions under a canopy. Official schedule update
Portsmouth On Ice fills Guildhall Square, a pedestrian square in the city centre close to Portsmouth and Southsea station and overlooked by the Guildhall. The rink has a canopy for guaranteed skating whatever the weather, and non-skaters can watch from the covered side area; entry to the site to spectate is free of charge.
The Guildhall behind it was constructed in 1890 and known as Portsmouth Town Hall until Portsmouth was raised to the status of a city on 21 April 1926, when it was renamed. It was gutted by incendiary bombs on 10 January 1941, then entirely rebuilt over four years from 1955 and reopened by Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2026 the rink is opening earlier on more days, with quieter sessions in all the early morning slots, dedicated family sessions each weekday, and live DJ nights rink side on set dates.
