Two arenas in a shared community centre
The G.H. Dawe Community Centre is shared by G.H. Dawe Community School, the G.H. Dawe branch of the Red Deer Public Library, the City's recreation facility and St. Patrick's School. The City invites visitors to make a splash in the water park, see what is on in the gymnasium, try the new fitness centre and track, or lace up their skates in one of the arenas.
Both the North and South arenas have NHL-sized ice surfaces that are fully sledge hockey accessible, with clear bench boards, removable benches and removable flooring. Each has large, accessible dressing rooms with low hooks and barrier-free showers, and a large warm-up room for teams' pre-game exercises. The North Arena has nine accessible viewing spaces and the South Arena five.
The City and the YMCA run a Youth in Facilities project here to build positive relationships with young visitors.
