NHL-size ice with more than 1,100 seats, host of the 2016 Telus Cup and the 2023 Para Hockey Cup.
The qplex officially opened on March 31, 2011, and marked the occasion with the Irving Oil Challenge Cup. It was one of the first buildings in Atlantic Canada certified LEED Gold by the Canada Green Building Council: it runs on geothermal heating, collects rainwater for its toilets, ice floods and pool, and uses an all-electric ice resurfacer. Its street, Randy Jones Way, is named after the former NHL player from Quispamsis.
The ice stays in all year. The NHL-size sheet is surrounded by more than 1,100 seats, for a total capacity of 1,500, and the indoor walking track doubles as the arena concourse. The U18 AAA Saint John Vito's play here, alongside minor hockey and other community programs.
Hockey Canada has brought several events to the building: the 2016 Telus Cup, the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge as co-host, the 2023 Para Hockey Cup, a USA-Finland game before the 2023 World Junior Championship and the 2024 U18 Women's National Championship. Skaters also practised here for the 2019 Canadian Figure Skating Championships.
