Built in 1984 with a curling rink added in 1986; its crowded ice sparked a campaign for a second rink
The Martensville Sports Centre was built in 1984, with a curling rink added in 1986. The arena has five hockey dressing rooms, a figure skating room and a referee room, and seats 600 with room for 150 more standing. Minor hockey teams from initiation up to midget, recreational hockey teams, a curling club and a figure skating club call it home, and an upper mezzanine is used for fundraisers, tournaments and special events.
As Martensville's population rose to around 11,000, enrolment in ice sports grew and created a very high demand for a second ice surface. In 2014 a group of volunteers formed the Martensville Community Recreation Project to raise money for a multi-purpose sports facility.
The outdoor rink beside the centre has had its playing surface levelled and new boards and energy-efficient LED lights installed, and a warm-up building was planned for it in 2020. In July 2024 the city announced a new ice plant for the aging arena, to replace an existing plant described as struggling along on its last legs.
