Garson's arena, renamed for George Armstrong in 2024

The Garson Community Centre and Arena was officially renamed the George Armstrong Community Centre and Arena in October 2024. The Nickel Centre Minor Hockey Association put forward the formal request on January 12, 2023, and a report went to the city's Community and Emergency Services Committee on April 10, 2023.

George Armstrong was a Hall of Fame forward and captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who won four Stanley Cup championships in the 1960s. He played 21 NHL seasons and helped win four Cups with the Maple Leafs, the last in 1967.

At the ribbon-cutting, the mayor, members of council and local hockey associations gathered, and a sea of blue jerseys filled the arena. New signs went up outside on Church Street. Inside, a trophy case houses photos and memorabilia of Armstrong, and a mural of the Hall of Famer has been added.
