The Coniston Arena was renamed the Toe Blake Memorial Arena at a ceremony on Sept. 10, 2011
The Coniston Community Centre/Arena was officially renamed the Toe Blake Memorial Arena at a special ceremony on Sept. 10, 2011. It was the formation of the Coniston CAN Community Action Network that sparked the flame that would bring the renaming to fruition, and the celebration featured five notable awards provided by the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Blake, a former NHL forward and coach, was raised in Coniston and played both junior and senior hockey in the Sudbury area. His family moved to Coniston when he was just one year old. He took on the role as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens from 1955 to 1968, winning eight Stanley Cup titles in just 13 seasons, and in 1966 he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the player category.
The arena has an ice surface of 85 feet by 185 feet, seating capacity of 500 and four dressing rooms.
