Seaton Village's 1971 arena named for a police inspector

Bill Bolton Arena was built in 1971 as an indoor arena in the Seaton Village community. It is named for William (Bill) H. Bolton, a local police inspector who founded St. Alban's Boys Club in 1947, and the arena was unveiled under his name on March 8, 1972.

Through the seventies and eighties the arena hosted community groups, and Jim Oreto, its manager for most of that history, ran free community skates and welcomed local school teams. In the summers it held ball hockey leagues, concerts and even a play. The house league began in 1988 with 30 children learning to play on Saturday mornings; by the early nineties it had more than 200 players and the rink had added adult leagues.

Today the arena runs more than 20 programs with over 2,000 participants a year. It is the only arena in the city that operates all of its own programming in-house, including its snack bar and pro shop, and it is an undersized building set in a park.
