A 1951 war memorial arena and hall

Woodbridge Memorial Arena exists because of postwar provincial legislation that encouraged municipalities to build war memorials in the form of community halls and arenas. The village formed its first Recreation Committee in September 1948, and that October the committee decided the arena and hall should go north of Elm Park, on land given by Robinson Converters Ltd. While planning, its members inspected local rinks, consulted builders and interviewed government officials.

Grading began on September 1, 1949. A Memorial Arena Board set up by village council in 1950 included representatives of the Canadian Legion branch, the Women's Institute and the Board of Trade. The facility officially opened on February 1, 1951, though the first hockey game had been played on January 18, and the first lacrosse game followed on June 15.

The building still combines an indoor arena, a community hall and a swimming pool.
