Otsego County's NHL-size rink in Gaylord, once home to the NAHL Gaylord Grizzlies, now to the APHL Warhounds
The Otsego County Sportsplex is the county's rink and pool in Gaylord, Michigan, run to provide spectator venues, aquatic and ice-rink activities for county residents. Its best-known tenant was the Gaylord Grizzlies, a junior team in the North American Hockey League that played out of the Sportsplex. The franchise arrived mid-season when the Saginaw Gears were sold and relocated to Gaylord, taking the Grizzlies name, and for its first full season in town it hired Marty Howe, Gordie Howe's son, as head coach. The Grizzlies folded in 2003.
The ice is a single NHL-size sheet, ringed by a 1/8-mile indoor walking track. Youth hockey belongs to the Otsego County Hockey Association, a volunteer-run non-profit governed by elected officers and directors, and the same sheet carries figure skating, high school and adult hockey. Since October 2025 the building has been home to the Northern Michigan Warhounds, a semi-pro team that opened its inaugural APHL season here against the West Michigan Sentinels.
In May 2014 a county millage to upgrade the Sportsplex failed in a special election by 31 votes, and a month later the county looked at putting a five-year upgrade levy back on the ballot. Outside the hockey season the building has also run a summer child-care program since 2008.
