AIC Steppe Arena in Ulaanbaatar has had an enclosed 60 by 30 metre ice sheet since 2021
AIC Steppe Arena in Ulaanbaatar calls itself Mongolia's first international-standard ice arena and an enclosed building that operates whatever the season. It began operating in 2021, built by the Mongolian company Achit Ikht as a social-responsibility project. The ice sheet measures 60 by 30 metres, the Olympic standard, and the arena says it can take 120 skaters an hour.
The building has 7,800 square metres of working floor, 2,600 seats, five changing rooms for officials and athletes and a conference room for 30 to 50 people. It stages ice hockey, figure skating and short-track competitions and lessons, as well as concerts, expos and conferences with its own sound and lighting. The Mongolian studio Anagram drew up the design with advice from the Canadian architects HDR/CEI and VDA, and the Finnish firm Tekojaa fitted the ice equipment.
Anyone over the age of five may skate, and the arena offers lessons with professional instructors.
