Two sheets in Wichita since 1996
The Wichita Ice Center opened in 1996 and has been Wichita's ice facility ever since, operating in partnership with Wichita Park & Recreation. It holds two sheets, one NHL-size rink and one International Olympic-size rink, with coaching and training programs running alongside the public sessions.
The building has hosted more than hockey. The Wichita Aviators played their 2006 home games here, and the Wichita Force, a professional indoor football team, played its home games in the Ice Center. The Wichita Jr. Thunder, an AAU-sanctioned junior hockey team, played its home games on this ice.
Today the ice is shared between the center's coaching and training programs and public skating sessions, which are run with music and games on the ice and are open to everyone.
