A 1974 state rink named for Daniel S. Horgan

Horgan Arena opened in 1974, one of the dozens of rinks the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation built across the state as demand for ice skyrocketed in the Bobby Orr era of the 1970s. It is named for Daniel S. Horgan, chief engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works and president of the Auburn Rotary Club, who died in 1973 before the rink was completed.

The arena remains a Commonwealth of Massachusetts public skating facility overseen by DCR, and FMC Ice Sports has operated it for the state since 1995. Its stands hold 1,500. Junior Crusaders Youth Hockey, Auburn High School Hockey, Auburn Girls Hockey and the Worcester Junior Railers all call it home, and the Anna Maria AmCats men's hockey team plays here while the women's team skates at Buffone Arena in Worcester.
