Built in 1990 as a USA Hockey training center

The Albany County Hockey Facility was built in 1990 as a training center for the USA Hockey program. The 40,000-square-foot building has 500 permanent bleacher seats with room for another 250 portable ones, six locker rooms, a press room, a medical and training room and the Center Ice Café for concessions.

In the summer of 2015 the rink finished the first phase of a five-month renovation. It replaced the refrigeration system, cooling tower, under-floor heating and boards, swapped the old scoreboards for LED ones, added safety netting around the glass and, the biggest change of all, reduced the rink size from Olympic to NHL size. A constant ice temperature of 20 degrees is kept by ten miles of freon pipe laid beneath the ice.

The county runs a programme of recreational and competitive activities for all segments of the population. The facility is open year round and averages over 150 hours of activity per week.
