A tented real-ice rink the size of Rockefeller Center's, run each winter by Have An Ice Day
Currently out of season The covered outdoor rink behind Sugar Hill City Hall opens for the 2026-27 season on November 13 and runs to February 21. Official schedule update
Every winter a real-ice outdoor rink goes up in downtown Sugar Hill, on the Dawn P. Gober Community Plaza behind City Hall and next to The Bowl amphitheater. The city says it is the same size as the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City. In November 2017 the rink returned for its fourth consecutive winter, and it was drawing about 15,000 people to Sugar Hill a year.
Have An Ice Day, the family-owned company that runs it, has been providing family fun since 1998. It began at the World of Coca-Cola as "Coke on Ice" and later moved to other well-known Georgia venues, among them the Georgia International Horse Park, before settling at Sugar Hill City Hall, where it bills its tented rink as the largest portable ice rink in the southeastern United States. A 2017 city release called it the Southeast's largest outdoor real-ice rink that season.
A 2016 Gwinnett Forum photo essay noted that locals no longer had to make the long drive to the Centennial Olympic Park rink downtown, and that a snack bar stood at one end of the rink. The city counts the rink among several winter additions meant to turn downtown into a Winter Wonderland.
