Two NHL-size sheets inside The Crossover complex in Cedar Park, home ice of the revived Austin Ice Bats
Ice & Field at the Crossover opened in August 2020 as Chaparral Ice at The Crossover, the anchor tenant and the first business to open inside the 240,000-square-foot multisport and retail complex in Cedar Park. Chaparral Ice ran two sheets from the start: a silver rink designed to accommodate people with disabilities and a gold rink laid out specifically for hockey. The complex around them was developed by Eric Perardi.
Both sheets are full-size regulation NHL rinks, sharing the complex with an outdoor turf field and pickleball courts. The tenant hockey fans will know arrived in 2021, when a new junior team was launched under the Austin Ice Bats name in the North American 3 Hockey League; the team plays its home games here. The Austin Jr Ice Bats followed in 2023, with age divisions from 8U to 16U.
The operator changed in February 2022, when the bank repossessed Chaparral Ice at The Crossover. Chaparral Ice told its customers it had opened the Cedar Park location just months after COVID turned the world upside down, and that the new management intended to continue operations and honor all current obligations. The rink now goes by Ice & Field.
