Bismarck's two-sheet ice complex, built on a 1974 arena

Capital Ice Complex at 1504 Wichita Drive is Bismarck Parks and Recreation's two-sheet arena. Its first sheet, Schaumberg Arena, was constructed in 1974, and the District counts it among five indoor arenas where ice is available year round.

Renovations in 2013 replaced the sand floor with concrete and added new refrigeration pipes, dasher boards and ceiling and insulation wrap. In 2017 the Building on Tradition capital campaign raised just over $3.8 million to add a second sheet of ice, Wachter Arena, and the whole complex took the name Capital Ice Complex.

The Bismarck Hockey Boosters and the Bismarck Figure Skating Club made substantial donations to the project, as did the Chad and Stacy Wachter family. Schaumberg Arena now has seating for 560 and Wachter Arena for 542.
