Three sheets since the 2024 Raise the Rink expansion; Rink 1 seats 1,289 for Bobcats junior hockey
The VFW Sports Center opened as the VFW All Seasons Arena, where Rink #1 was built in 1986 alongside a curling rink that opened the same year. Rink #2 was added in 1999, together with ice and golf enhancements, and the facility was later renamed the VFW Sports Center under Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.
It remains Bismarck's main hockey competition rink and is home to the Bismarck Bobcats junior hockey team, along with high school and youth hockey and figure skating. Rink 1 is the big room, with seating for 1,289. The two smaller sheets are the H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena, seating 305, and the First International Bank & Trust Arena, seating 310, and the building has 15 locker rooms between them.
The most recent change came in 2024, when Bismarck Parks and Recreation District celebrated the expanded and renovated VFW Sports Center with its partners, the supporters of the Raise the Rink campaign and the community.
